As a proud resident of Scheveningen, Martin had been looking for the coat of arms of the seaside resort for some time. He approached me with the question whether I could make the coat of arms from glass. With a flag as an example and the question whether it could be made in a shield or circle, I made a number of designs.
Martin chose the fourth design.
Because I normally make objects that are fully fused together (Full Fuse) and this time I wanted to use a different technique so that the layers are fused together (Tack Fuse) so that the fish and crowns are on the blue glass. This gives a very nice effect.
To ensure that I would use the correct firing schedule and melting temperature, I first performed a test with a pilot design.
What I wanted to achieve was that the edges would be nicely rounded but the fish would not melt too much so that it would lose its shape. The test was successful.
Now it was time to make the weapon.
